RAPID® HD is a micro-optic security thread that delivers high-contrast movement effects with enhanced clarity and precision. The "HD" designation reflects advancements in material properties and processing that achieve results described as high definition, raising the bar beyond the original RAPID technology.
The defining characteristic of RAPID® HD is its combination of simple, intuitive movement with exceptional visibility. The security thread exhibits distinct, easy-to-verify movement that requires only a "flick of the wrist" and works reliably in any lighting condition. Images and colors can be fully customized to match the theme of the banknote, with an expansive micro-optic color palette available for enhanced designs.
RAPID® HD offers several technical advantages. The thread is nearly 10% thinner than traditional RAPID, making it easier to integrate into modern, inventive window patterns on banknotes. The feature also includes nano-printed inscriptions of the banknote denomination within the thread itself, adding an additional layer of security.
The thread is designed for both high-volume transactional banknotes and large-value store-of-value denominations. It has been used to protect over 100 banknote denominations worldwide.
An optional Detect version incorporates invisible IR-absorbing material that can be verified by nearly all types of cash processing equipment. This machine-readable component uses secure materials available only to the currency industry and exhibits a unique, highly secure IR signal. The Detect material is integral to the feature and cannot be removed, providing very high tolerance to soiling and maintaining full detectability even in worn and soiled banknotes throughout their entire lifetime.
Notable applications include the new Bahamas series and Mozambique's 2024 metical series.
