MOTION® Switch

MOTION® Switch is a micro-optic security thread woven directly into banknote paper, with moving images framed within rectangular windows that appear and disappear from the center of the substrate. It represents an advanced evolution of the original MOTION technology, adding an extra layer of security beyond simple movement.

The defining characteristic of MOTION® Switch is its dual-image capability. When the banknote is tilted, the icons switch between two different images and move perpendicularly at the same time, creating a highly distinctive visual effect that's easy for the public to verify but difficult for counterfeiters to replicate.

The feature can be enhanced with additional security elements including UV fluorescence and micro-text. MOTION Switch exemplifies integrated security design by combining security print, micro-optics and substrate to work together.

Notable applications include the US $100 banknote, the current Swedish banknote series, and the recently withdrawn British £50 note. In South Korea's 2,000-won Olympic Commemorative banknote, the feature displays switching Korean characters.

The technology is built on millions of microscopic lenses that create synthetic images through moiré magnification at a micron scale. As a Level 1 (public) security feature, it provides an intuitive authentication method while maintaining sophisticated technical complexity that deters counterfeiting attempts.
